Aberdeen Art Gallery Festive Market

So somehow it’s November in a few days’ time, and once again I am wondering how that happened (like I do every year). Autumn obviously decided to take the year off – wet and windy weather has been the order of the month, and with darkness falling at 5 o’clock we seem to have been plunged rather than eased into winter. On the upside it means that the festive fair season is just around the corner and this year it’s kicking off with a very exciting one – Tea Green’s Festive Market at Aberdeen Art Gallery

It’s exciting for me because I have never done a fair in Aberdeen, and it will also be nice to revisit the city I lived in for two years as a teenager (back in the mists of time) while I got my portfolio together to apply for art school!

I’ll be there all weekend, November 4th & 5th from 10am – 4pm. With a fabulous line up of over 50 of the best independent creative business based in Scotland, it’s the ideal place to start ticking off your Christmas shopping list!

See below all the places you can find me over the next two months, and I’ll be back soon with more details

Stay safe and cosy!

Double Door & Kibble Palace

I’ve got lots going on again this week so I’m starting with a very quick heads-up on the events front!

This Thursday evening the Double Door Festive Boutique in Dundee begins with an invite-only preview followed by selected opening times which can be viewed and booked on their website

There will be a gorgeous selection of work by Scottish designers and makers including art, jewellery, ceramics, glass, textiles, prints, cards, candles and cosmetics. Entry is free and you have until the 22nd of December to pop along!

My second event of the week is with Tea Green once again, and it’s returning for the first time since 2019 to the place of my birth – Glasgow! The venue is Kibble Palace in the city’s Botanic Gardens and you can find me there on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20th from 10-4.

I’ll be back with more news next week but in the meantime you can find details of all my upcoming events on my ‘Shop’ page. TTFN!

Out & About

Hello! I promised a quick post about where you can catch me out and about this summer, so here we are – I’ve only booked two fairs so far (commitment-phobe, moi?) but they are goodies!

First up this Saturday, June 22nd is Perthshire Creates: there will be 52 talented makers exhibiting over two venues – Perth Civic Hall (where I’ll be) and Perth Museum & Art Gallery. Open from 10am -4.30pm

Then in August I’ll be at the fabulous Tea Green Market Weekend at Bowhouse, St Monans, Saturday 10th & Sunday 11th, 10am-4pm with lots of great contemporary craft, artisan food and cool tunes…

It’s been so long since I did a fair but I’m quite impressed with how laid back I am about it all, but then that applies to most things these days (see last post)! As long as I remember my stock, float, phone and card machine I should be alright…

I’m going to blow my own trumpet here and tell you that I’m kinda loving how my work is looking right now! Hopefully other folk will agree. It’s always a dilemma deciding on how much to take to fairs but this time I’ve got myself a super new trolley/cart thingy so at least it’ll be no bother to transport everything to the venues!

So if you’re in the Perth/Fife area this summer, pop along to these fab fairs and support Scottish contemporary craft and small business 🙂

Long Hot Summer

Apparently here in the British Isles we’re experiencing the hottest summer on record since 1976. The day they announced this on the radio I started reading a new book (randomly purchased in a library sale) with the opening sentence: “It was 1976, and the hottest summer in living memory.” Weird, right? The book is ‘The Year of the Ladybird: A Ghost Story’ by Graham Joyce, and it features a two day plague of ladybirds (usually a symbol of good luck?). Reading it I realised that I haven’t seen a single ladybird in the garden this year, which is cause for concern. And I have been spending A LOT of time in the garden, mostly trying to keep the plants from dying of thirst…

On the days it’s been too hot to go outside ( how often do we get to say that in Scotland?) I’ve been getting on with making a couple of new things in time for my first craft market of 2018 (quite late on in the year I know, I’m such a slacker) which is next month in the lovely seaside village of St Monans in the East Neuk of Fife.

These wee wooden house brooches were actually inspired by all the pretty fishing villages of the East Neuk with their coloured 18th century cottages and harbour buildings. It’s an area of the country I love so I’m really looking forward to being up there for the weekend.

I’ll also be taking these new wooden flower stems with me – inspired of course by all the lovely colours we have in the garden at the moment. The flowers in the garden won’t last long though, so these are some you can enjoy all year round!

You can find a link to details of next month’s fair on my ‘Shop’ page, along with links to my Etsy shops where you can browse all my available work.

Here’s hoping the good weather continues (ok, maybe with the odd day of rain so I don’t have to keep getting the garden hose out) – I’m just enjoying the fact that I haven’t worn socks for 2 months.
